Recently…

I’m going to start off by vowing to post more than once a month. Let’s say…once a week. Yeah, that sounds pretty feasible.  (Baby steps, people!)

Anyway…

Matthew started his new job at UST last week. He had been wanting to get back into web development for quite some time. Being an ABAP developer just wasn’t cutting it.  Matthew’s happiness is very important to me. I do what I can to keep him happy at home, but when it comes to his job, the most I can offer is a supportive ear and a few kind words.  I’m thrilled he is once again doing what he loves. Way to go, babe! I’m proud of you!

Natalie is as beautiful as ever. She loves books, kitties, shoes, tomatoes, keys, bananas, and riding in her baby seat on Matthew’s bike. She walks everywhere, gets into everything, and is afraid of everyone. Her favorite foods are those adults eat. She’s turning into a little girl a lot sooner than we expected. Now only if we could get her to finally sleep through the night.  :/

I’ve been going to the gym once or twice a week. I’m hoping it’ll soon turn into a habit, because I’m tired of having to push myself. My ultimate goal is to go to the gym 5 days/week.  I have a long way to go, but I know I’ll get there. These words and this blog will hold me accountable. If I manage to work out 3 days this week, I’ll be very happy.

For every day I work out, I’ll come back and put an X by the corresponding day(s):

Monday: X

Tuesday: X

I’m heading to bed now. I need to rest up if I’m hoping to keep these promises to myself! Goodnight!

We’re Engaged!

Matthew and I became engaged February 3rd, 2010, while out celebrating our 3-year anniversary at La Belle Vie. During dinner, there was a moment where Matthew was rubbing the ring finger on my left hand. He has done it before, so I didn’t think too much of it. Although, when I pointed it out to him, he began to act goofier than usual. Still, I didn’t think too much of it. His hands were also clammy as always (sorry, babe!). After dinner and great conversation (mostly about how awkward we felt for being the youngest people in the place), the waiter brought our dessert. The second it was put on the table, Matthew began to scoot down the bench. The waiter was explaining what was in front of us, but I couldn’t pay attention to what he was saying because I was busy trying to figure out why Matthew thought this was the perfect time to run to the bathroom. Well, to my surprise, he wasn’t making a trip to the bathroom. He was getting down on one knee! I was so wrapped up in Matthew’s seemingly-odd behavior, I failed to see the waiter had also delivered the ring that was to be given to me. The second I saw Matt take the ring, he grabbed my hand. My jaw practically hit the floor. He went on about meeting the right person, the love of your life, a person who understands you. Then it was, “I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Talisha, will you marry me?” Of course I said, “Yes!”

P.S. Turns out, he dropped off the ring after work (and before picking me up). Sneaky guy, I tell ya’!

P.P.S. I’ll be sure to keep you informed of any dates, locations, etc.

A relaxing Sewday, er, Sunday.

So the weekend is quickly coming to a close. ‘Twas very relaxing, to say the least, although Friday night was a blur. Saturday evening we met up with Phil, Alissa, Pete, and Ann, for the ever-delicious Pizza Luce, and a game (or two) of “Lunch Money.” I won the first game, Alissa the second. I’m happy Ann is joining our inner-circle. Not only is she sweet, but she has the quirkiness factor we all embody (in our own special way). Plus, we could always use another female in the group. Today was both fun and busy. The day started off with a sewing date with Alissa and Emily. It was my first sewing attempt in 10 years! I made a little summer dress for Natalie. I suppose I could have done a better job, but it was a start. Here are a few pictures:

The dress itself.

On our lovely model, Natalie.

Another view.

My next attempt will be a pair of pants for Natalie. The greatest challenge, I believe, will be in adding an elastic waistband. I don’t know where to begin. Alissa, have you begun reading my blog? If not, you really should. I’m going to need some serious help.

The rest of the day was spent running errands. For dinner, I cooked up some homemade lettuce wraps — they were quite tasty. The rest of the night the three of us cuddled on the couch to catch up on Firefly. “Two by two, hands of blue.” I get it, guys! :D

I’m off to sleep. Have a nice week, everyone! Sweet dreams.

This SAHM is getting a coffee after work…Matt’s work, that is!

Since our last heating bill was so darned expensive ($260), we’re keeping the apartment a little less toasty. So that means I’ll have to pile on the sweaters, scarves, hats, mittens, and winter boots to make it from one room to the other. I’m kidding. But I will have to put on a warm sweater and socks. Natalie keeps pulling off her socks, so I may need to pick her up a pair of tights. Try pulling those off, baby! Or maybe I’ll just put her in some footed pajamas. Yeah, I’ll do that. My point to all this, you ask? Well, Matthew and I have been working at saving (almost) every cent of his hard-earned cash. This means we’ve been eating at home a whole lot more, and he has been brown-bagging it to work more often. He was doing pretty well for a while. That is, until yesterday and today. Yesterday, he and his coworkers went to a sports bar for lunch. Today? Chipotle. I’ve told him that for every time he goes out for lunch (this includes the office cafeteria), I get a coffee for the day. So today, people, I get a coffee. You might say, “Well, didn’t he go out for lunch yesterday? Shouldn’t that make it TWO coffees?” Yes, that’s true. But I’ll probably let yesterday’s outing slide because it was in celebration of a coworker getting a different job (same company, different floor).

Matthew and his friends usually get together Friday nights for beer and Rock Band. This weekend, though, they’re possibly changing it to Saturday night. Either way, it’s canceled tonight. I’m pretty sure we’ll take it easy. Natalie was quite a handful last night. We had her in bed with us for about an hour, most of which was spent getting my hair pulled. We’re trying to work at getting her to sleep through the night (she’s 15mos). We’re not sure what to do anymore. We’re exhausted. We’ve tried every trick in the book. I found a video that talks about what we’re going through. Karen, I hope Matthew and I are luckier than you were with your daughter. Matthew, do we dare be as hardcore as Heather?

Where’s my gym membership, dude?!

I’ve finally been given a moment to breathe. Matthew is working on getting Natalie to sleep, and I’m working on eating my FLT (Facon, Lettuce, and Tomato). Today has been a pretty hectic day. Aside from Natalie constantly needing my undivided attention all day, we had to bring Matthew to church for violin practice. Also, we picked up my new glasses tonight. I have the black ones. It has been five years since my last vision prescription, so my eyes have a little catching up to do.

You say I need a change of subject? Great idea! So I’ve been working on a few things. First, I’d like to get my body back in shape (I’ll post my measurements in the next few days, I promise!). I haven’t had much time in the past few weeks to do anything besides yoga and at-home weight training. I don’t have a gym membership…and it’s sooooo cold outside! I was supposed to receive one for X-mas, but I have yet to see it! Where’s my gym membership, dude?! Matt wants me to first use up part of my yoga package. I understand his concern, but I’d still like the option of going to the gym. Second, I’m trying to make a better effort at hanging out with my friends. After my breakup with the ex, I dumped the people who weren’t my true friends, and became wary of the ones who were. I am improving, though. Those who stand by me have been truly amazing. Thank you–I love you guys! My friend, Tim, wants to do brunch this weekend, and Sunday I have a date with Alissa and Emily to make baby clothes (I haven’t used a sewing machine since I was 16, so wish me luck). This weekend should be fun. I’m excited to have more family time with Natalie and Matthew. The two of them keep me grounded. I’m eternally grateful to have them in my life. Muahh!

The night is about over, so I should head into bed. It can’t hurt to have Matt’s arms around me, either. ;)
